  The Subaru Impreza WRX was introduced as the high-powered, turbocharged version of the Impreza which was launched in 1992 as a successor to the popular Legacy (offered in Australia as the Subaru ‘Liberty’). In celebration of its extraordinary rally successes, Subaru adopted the name “WRX” to stand for “World Rally eXperimental” as all WRX models feature rally inspired technology, including all wheel drive, stiffened suspensions and turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The WRX also has a lightweight aluminium bonnet with vents and a central air scoop, the latter was used to feed the intercooler sitting atop the 2.0-liter 16-valve turbo engine. Apart from the excellent performance developed through motorsport, this exciting small car is praised for the free-revving engine, flexible power delivery, beautiful balance and excellent road-holding. Mechanically-speaking, the Impreza and Legacy were very similar. The new car retained its predecessor’s compact, lightweight engine, well-balanced chassis and strut-type suspension. But, the Impreza was a smaller and nimbler model, with a new turbo, intercooler and cylinder heads giving an increase of up to 20hp. Since its release, the Impreza has successfully played a dual role as both a practical, value-oriented compact car and a small performance sports car. This 2.0-litre, 5-speed manual 1996 Subaru Impreza WRX in silver was purchased new by the vendor from Dave Nutter Subaru, Packenham and has covered a mere 23,635 kms. The discerning owner has kept it in storage for the past 15 years and has recently seen to a comprehensive and thorough service.
