  • Notes:
A NOTE FROM WARWICK BROWN: It is sad to consider that Woollaston was so poor when he created these two wonderful watercolours that he had to use both sides of the paper. Both are scenes of Nelson hills, but one is very loose and washy and the other more dense work, demonstrates the artist's desire to paint the sunlight after it had been absorbed by the earth. By turning the work over, one can enjoy the full range of Woollaston's vision. He signed one side, but not the other.
