    A Karabagh district rug, southern Caucasus, dated AH 1334/1915 CE
    187 x 124 cm
  • Notes:
    This charming carpet portrays five figures seated and standing in a domestic interior furnished in the manner of village houses of the Caucasus. Three are holding hunting falcons on their wrists. The inscription at the top-right reads ‘Arab Celebration’, a reference to the traditional sport of the Arab nobility that spread throughout all the regions where Muslim Arabs became the dominant power at various points in history.
