    1968 Lamborghini Miura P400
    Chassis: 3318 Engine: 1672
  • Notes:
In 1965 Automobili Lamborghini, a company then just two years old, launched one of the most radical and exciting cars ever produced - the Lamborghini Miura. Featuring the four litre V12 Lamborghini 400GT engine mounted transversely behind the driver it had a chassis that was strong but light, made out of bent welded sheet metal with swaged holes. Ferruccio Lamborghini exhibited his car at the October 1965 Turin Motor Show without a body. Nuccio Bertone, head of the Carrozzeria Bertone saw the concept and offered his company's services to design the body to sit on the revolutionary chassis - 'the shoe to fit the foot' as he said. The task was given to the 26 year old Marcello Gandini to finish the creation of the Miura and begin his career as one of the most influential designers of the second half of the 20th Century. The Miura was shown in all its glory at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show. This absolutely wonderful 1968 Lamborghini Miura P400 is a superb example of one of the world's most sought after super sports cars. This rare and desirable right hand drive P400 has the distinction of being the first Miura imported to Australia and was exhibited at the 15th Sydney Motor Show in September 1968. Chassis number 3318 has the production order number 134 and, "The body was for our serial production but the engine (no 1672) had actually a higher standard than usual," states the legendary figure of Ubaldo Sgarzi of Automobili Lamborghini. This car has covered just 89,000 fully documented kilometers and the engine has been rebuilt twice by its current owner of the last 25 years. The second rebuild was only completed in February 2013 along with the gearbox and carburettors being completely overhauled. Since then it has covered 4,000 kms and taken part in the Lamborghini 50th Anniversary Grande Giro celebrations in May 2103 where it was a class winner at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Sant' Agata its spiritual home near Bologna. In 2010 it underwent a back to metal full body restoration and other work includes a recent suspension overhaul including new springs and bushes, twin vented disc brakes, new brake lines, new radiator, rose-jointed rear suspension to match SV handling, new stainless steel fuel tank and five new Avon 225/65R15 CR6ZZ 99V tyres. This multiple award winning Lamborghini Miura has marvellous documented history and provenance and is in absolutely superb condition throughout.
