    1926 Salmson 6AL
  • Notes:
In the early years of the 20th Century the Salmson company founded by Frenchman, Emile Salmson, was famous for making aircraft engines and eventually during the First World War complete planes. Its first motor cars were displayed at the 1919 Paris Salon. The car division became independent in 1922 before ceasing to trade in the 1950s. The 1920s were Salmson's golden age and the marque won many competitive races and established multiple speed records, the little cars having success at Brooklands and even Le Mans. This lovely 1926 Salmson 6AL has a French chassis and engine built at the Billancourt factory and is fitted with its original Australian body built upon its arrival in the country when new. It features an unusual Overhead Valve motor, Ducellier switch panel and Smiths instruments and magneto. Its pretty body is complemented by a pair of magnificent Marchal headlights and it benefits from four wheel brakes. This car has documented history having been owned by Ray Coyle of Perth, WA in the 1960s and featured for sale in the 1989 Sotheby's catalogue of Important Veteran, Vintage and Sporting Motor Vehicles.
