  1950 Alvis Aluminium bodied Special
• Notes:
  Alvis was founded in 1919 and its first car the 10/30 gained an enviable reputation for quality and performance. Its side valve engine was then developed for the 12/50 model, one of the finest contemporary sports cars of its time and renowned for reliability and exciting performance. So successful was it that it remained in production until 1932 after considerable success at Brooklands and other circuits. Other highly innovative cars from Alvis include one of the world's first front-wheel drive cars. After the second world war Alvis produced a new chassis with a 3 litre six cylinder engine which became the basis for all its remaining models. The followers of this distinguished marque have always had an interest in creating specials. The cars are so sporty and technically refined that they lend themselves to being 'improved'. The unique example offered for sale was originally a 1950 sedan before being turned into a highly polished aluminium bodied four seater tourer special some time in the 1960s by a doctor in Sydney, Australia. This special car was purchased by its current owner over 30 years ago and it has been extensively updated to suit modern driving conditions designed for touring with extensive luggage space including a custom made trunk at the rear. It has a 5 speed all-synchromesh overdrive gearbox and split system power brakes and a modern electronic ignition system. The car has only been used on Club rallies and has done little mileage since a complete engine and accessory overhaul. The car has full registration and a new set of tyres. This interesting and visually attractive car is very highly regarded in Alvis circles. Fast and comfortable this is an out and out Alvis through and through and entirely true to the philosophy of the marque and underneath its special 'special' body an Alvis, which is now to be sold in deference to the age of the owner.
