Lot Description:A rare Chinese silver opium box, 19th century
with repoussé design of LIU HAI and the Three-Legged Toad, representing good fortune and prosperity,
3.5cm high, 7.5cm wide, 4cm deep, 98 grams. -
Provenance:Private Collection Melbourne; Acquired September 1976 from Honeychurch Antiques, Hong Kong.

Notes:Liu Hai, a popular Chinese God of Wealth, was a 10th century Daoist immortal and alchemist traditionally represented with a string of coins and a mythical three-legged chánchú (toad), as well as auspicious symbols of good fortune and prosperity.
