    Twenty-two years after designing the set for the Ballets Russes performance of Icare in Australia, Kenneth MacMillan, the distinguished British choreographer, commissioned Sidney Nolan to design the set and costumes for his new version of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring for the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden. The backdrops included a reworking of his iconic 1940 image Boy and the Moon (known as Moonboy) while the costumes emphasised a universal sense of the primitive.
