    Rare Mashman Bros 'Fish' ceramic planter
    by Alexander Murray modeled with three grotesque fishes in relief and seaweed motifs in relief between the fish and around the base. The fish (Black Bream, Red Rock Cod, Butter-fish) are modeled with scales and fins; the body of the planter on the outside, with a stippled pattern of small indented incised marks, and smooth surface inside in brown salt glaze, incised Chatswood 1924 to base. Some flaking and small chips to rim, measures 35cm H x 41.5cm.
  • Provenance:
    The vendors grandparents owned a drainage business in Chatswood and bought pipes from Mashman Bros Ltd
  • Notes:
    The Mashman Bros. Pottery employed Alexander Murray as a model maker in the early part of the 20th century. He was the Modelling teacher at the Sydney Technical College.
