First edition, first printing] Quarto, laminated pictorial boards, pp 76, with essays on Barbette (American female impersonator, actrobat and trapeze artist, Vander Clyde, 1888 - 1973) by Cocteau and Steegmuller; including numerous full page illustrations of Man Ray’s photographs of Barbette.

  From the estate of the publisher, Jacques Damase.
• Notes:
  The first 25 examples of this edition were numbered and accompanied by a Man Ray photograph of Barbette, posthumously printed by Gassmann; the present example is out of series (ie. unnumbered) but it is accompanied by a silver bromide print, c.1977, of the photograph reproduced on page 21, “Le travesti Barbette, 1926”; 30 x 22cm, verso stamped “MAN RAY / PARIS” and “Tirage originale réalisé par Pierre Gassmann.”
