  A New Zealand Gold Memento Mori Portrait Brooch
  the hinged cover set with emeralds and green paste on a berry and leaf ground within an engraved star; the border with applied fruiting vine; glazed compartment reverse. (family tradition states that the brooch was made in the Greymouth/Westport region in the 1860's; the photo' is of Charles Jenkins who successfully mined for gold in the area, gold from which the brooch is said to have been made) 44 x 38mm. Weight (all in) 24.6g.
