From the Foreword, written by J.H.Butters, Chairman of the Federal Capital Commission: “This booklet has been prepared by direction of the Federal Capital Commission in order to inform those members of the Commonwealth Public Service who are being transferred to Canberra next year in regard to how they will get to Canberra, and how they will get on when they get there......The members of the...Commission...also appreciate that Canberra has been thought of by a large number of [public servants] as something to be dreaded........I would ask each Public Servant to bear in mind that it is not an easy and simple task to build a City....”
