between numb.1451 and 1980: with many articles of interest including issue 1507 (Apr.26, 1680) reports of a “false and dangerous rumour spread abroad” that Charles II is to marry the mother of the Duke of Monmouth; issue 1694 (Feb. 9, 1682) with a report that a “most curious and excellent way of preserving dead bodies from putrefication” had been presented to the King; issue 1714 (Apr.20,1682) with a dedication of loyalty to King Charles II and opposition to the “Jesuit machinations” that had led to death of Charles I; issue 1757 (Sep.18, 1682) reports of a severe eruption of Mt Vesuvius; issue 1862 (Sep.20, 1683) records addresses made to King Charles in relation to the “Hellish conspiracy” against the King and his brother the Duke of York (the “Rye House Plot”); issue 1980 (Nov.6,1684) with an advertisement offering a reward for the return of valuables stolen by five highwaymen from the Exeter Stagecoach at Bagshot Heath; many other issues with notable content, along with the usual proclamations, announcements, and advertisements.
