    Presenting one of New Zealand’s most comprehensive offerings of maritime memorabilia from the Jack Ryder Collection, alongside Georgian sterling silver, Qing period Chinese ivories and porcelain, English and French antique furniture, Persian rugs and collectable antiques.

    The Jack Ryder collection features an important piece of New Zealand Naval History; Lot 47 the Ship’s Wheel from HMNZS ‘Kiwi’, a Bird class minesweeper of the Royal New Zealand Navy. In the Solomon Islands, 29th January 1943, HMNZS Kiwi detected the militarily superior Japanese submarine I-1. It depth charged and then rammed the stricken submarine three times. This resulted in the capture of the submarine and recovery of secret Japanese codes which when cracked changed the course of the Pacific War. The collection covers shipping hardware, paintings, posters, model ships, dress uniforms, life preservers and items of New Zealand maritime interest.

    The sale features some fine Oriental antiques, in particular, lot 256 a rare set of twelve 19th Century Japanese carved ivory mythical masks formerly of the Gilbertson collection. The masks are of a quality rarely seen on the New Zealand market. This is complimented with a variety of Japanese and Chinese carved ivories and Qing period porcelain and decorative furniture.

    Silver collectors will be excited to view one of our strongest offerings of Georgian and Victorian Silver in recent times with over 70 lots of excellent flatware, tableware, and other objects of virtu.
