    1965 PORSCHE 911
Chassis No: 300882; Engine No: 900987
  • Notes:
From the ruins of the second world war came one of the most important and iconic cars ever created. Porsche took its name from that of the founders of the company. Led by Dr Ferdinand ‘Ferry’ Porsche, whose father had designed the VW Beetle, Porsche’s first car was the 356. The company’s most important model however was the 911 launched in late 1964, with its offspring constantly modified and uprated and still in production today. This fine example of a very early 911 was delivered new on 30th May 1965 in signalrot (Signal Red colour code 6407b) with black interior as it remains today. Delivered to Michael Shirley of Wahroonga, NSW, Australia who purchased it in Europe and used it there. As an early car it was, of course, left hand drive, but Chassis 300882 (making it just the 882nd car to come off the production line) was converted to right hand drive to meet Australian licensing requirements for import. Upon arrival, in April 1966, it was sold to Arthur Hamilton in NSW, the Porsche specialist and dealer who was the founder of the Porsche Car Club in Australia. He kept the car until his death in 1978, it then becoming the property of his son Ian Hamilton. The next owner was Stewart Greaves who kept the car until 1982 during which time the engine was rebuilt by specialists Autohaus Hamilton. The car was then briefly held by Kevin Fielding of North Richmond, NSW before being purchased by Kevin Quick of Avalon in January 1983 who in turn sold it Michael and Linda Cuffe of Niagra Park in October of the same year. 1993 saw a detailed and complete bare metal restoration conducted by Graham Watson Restorations of Hornsby in Sydney. In 1997 Linda Cuffe married Brett Harris of St Ives and the car remained in her care. In 1998 a partial rebuild of the engine was undertaken once again by Autohaus Hamilton. In 2000 the car became the property of Christopher Rigget of Rushcutter’s Bay who had the gearbox rebuilt. Subsequently this 911 changed hands thrice more with the gearbox rebuilt whilst under custodianship of its penultimate owner. This car presents in authentic condition; it is believed the only modifications from standard are the Weber carburettors replacing the original Solex units, a Nardi steering wheel and the addition of seatbelts. This rare early matching numbers 911 with continuous history including Kardex from Porsche Germany, maintains its correct early magnesium alloy engine block, narrow body and steel wheels with hubcaps, its wooden dash and all minor details such as the four-screw front vents. It is accompanied by a thorough and detailed history file. This vehicle will be sold unregistered
