  1997 SUBARU SVX 2 DOOR COUPE

  When Subaru embarked on the grand turismo market they appointed the Italian designer, Giorgetto Giugiaro. Giugiaro drew from other signature half-window sports cars he had designed such as the Maserati Boomerang, Lamborghini Countach and De Lorean DMC-12. The design on the Alcyone SVX coupe has the half windows being split about two-thirds of the way from the bottom and the lines being parallel to the door frame. Produced between 1991 and 1996, with sales continuing in 1997, 24,379 SVX’s were produced with approximately 7,000 in right-hand drive. A mere 249 were sold in Australia. The car never reached its full potential due to the SVX’s high price and the fact that it was launched during an economic recession. The SVX was the first Subaru to exceed the Japanese government dimension regulations forcing the home market to pay more in annual road tax. In similarity to the Honda NSX, Subaru lost money on this model but intentionally pursued the exercise to prove something special was possible outside of their brilliant off road and rally cars. This Subaru SVX on offer is fitted with a 6-cylinder 3.3 litre naturally aspirated engine with automatic transmission and leather trim. It is understood this car was purchased new by Clem Smith in 1997. This car is a collectors’ vehicle of tomorrow and will be better appreciated with the passage of time. This vehicle will be sold unregistered.
