Notes:A NOTE FROM WARWICK BROWN: Pat's son had purchased a house lined with rosewood-stained plywood, which he ripped out. Pat had broken up a number of his paintings on hardboard with which me he was unhappy. Foraging in the two piles of broken boards, Pat conjured up this lovely work; a mix of cubism and abstract-expressionism. He saw this breaking-up as a metaphor for violence toward women, but the end product is celebratory. Pat said that the broken paintings of mine and are used in a reaction to the cleanism of post- modernism. Away from the precious, the tough is broken, veneer threatened, materials exposed and explored. Exhibited at RKS Art (one of their last shows).
